A skeuomorph is a design feature put onto an artifact, usually for nostalgic purposes, to make it resemble something similar, even if it is not absolutely necessary. An example would be the leather on an iCal to make it look the same as an actual physical pocket calendar.

In Celebration, FL, a suburban community owned and taken care of by the Disney Corporation, leaf-shaped confetti is shot out of the lampposts downtown in the autumn and “suds pour out” accompanied by Christmas music during the winter.
